Early this summer, Johnson County Parks and Recreation (JCPRD) opened its latest signature park, Meadowbrook Park. Located on the former site of the Meadowbrook Golf and Country Club, this $8.8 Million development covers over 80 acres, serving a highly-populated area spanning multiple cities.
Community involvement was an important component of this project. Before beginning, JCPRD called for citizen input, which was dominated by requests for trails. Residents also expressed a need for iconic gardens, open space, an event lawn, a destination playground, and picnic areas. The Meadowbrook Park Master Plan included all these elements.
Harmon Construction was selected to construct the park improvements and activity building. The 2,300 square foot activity center/clubhouse can accommodate a variety of uses, including public events, activities, and an early childhood education program.
Outside of the center, a 3.75 mile system of paved trails; eight, lighted pickle ball courts; ponds; multiple picnic structures; a great lawn; event space; and a pavilion foster new experiences for the entire community.
