24th Anniversary: Words From Our President
It’s time to celebrate our 24th Anniversary at Harmon Construction, Inc. On July 22, 1987, Tim Harmon and Jeff Laughlin (Tim’s brother-in-law) opened for business as Laughlin-Harmon Construction, Inc.
On August 18, 1987, only three weeks after “hanging our shingle out,” we had won a contract to build a maintenance building for The City of Lenexa for $168,900. Our pencils were sharp that day beating the next bidder by a slim margin of half of one percent. This set the wheels in motion, validated our business plan and gave us confidence to charge forward.
A lot of water has past over the dam since those early days. Our name changed to Harmon Construction, Inc. in 1992 after Jeff Laughlin left the firm to pursue other interests. Soon after, we adopted (and registered) the tag line “Building Relationships Before Buildings.” It’s what still drives our culture today. Our associates are “relationship builders.”
During pre-construction services, the construction phase and well beyond the “move-in date” and ribbon cutting, we maintain personal contact and offer consulting services that have resulted in many repeat projects. I believe that over 90% of our projects are through a referral or past project performance. That is a testament to our professional management team, outstanding controls/processes and integrity in everyone we serve. Some would refer to us as “servant leaders.”
2012 will mark our Silver 25th Anniversary. So I will wait to list our achievements and accomplishments next year; however, a few highlights are listed below:
– Top 25 Commercial Builder – KC Star, KC Business Journal
– Top 100 Fastest Growing Company in KC Metro Area – Ingrams Magazine
– Community Civic Leaders – Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Economic Development, Educational Foundations, Service to the Community
Thank you for the confidence that you’ve demonstrated in hiring Harmon Construction, Inc. for Construction Management, Design/Build, General Contracting and Development Services.
We are very optimistic about the future and look forward to building new relationships and strengthening existing ones.
Press on… the best is yet to come.
Tim Harmon – President
